Tackling the Tech Gap in Hospitality
Recent research from GBTA (the Global Business Travel Association) sought to understand how technology is changing the travel industry. They surveyed 388 respondents from the industry on how they are integrating advanced technologies such as AI and blockchain into their travel programs.
- 75% of travel buyers are interested in adopting AI technology
- 61% of travel suppliers expect their company’s spending on internal technology to increase this year
That’s good news for the 37% of hotel employees that said their company’s use of technology has room to improve.
It’s great news for those hospitality leaders who have been early adopters. Of the hotel respondents who use various tech platforms, two-thirds said they are satisfied with their technology solutions.
While the best time to start experimenting with emerging technology is yesterday, the second best option is today. And every day, more hotel groups are forging new paths forward.
AI is shaping personalized guest experiences
One powerful application of AI technologies is using data analytics and AI to understand and anticipate guest preferences and behaviors, empowering hotels to personalize preferred rooms, room service, and other guest amenities.
Anticipating guest needs is a keystone of hospitality excellence, so applying AI technology to enable that level of personalization is a natural early application of these new tools.
Partnerships are offering guests deeper value
Industry collaborations and cooperation can unlock even more opportunities to delight guests. Whether it’s Delta and Uber’s partnership or Hilton and Doordash’s, creating these programs aren’t just an opportunity to build loyalty through discounts, points, and other incentives–it’s also a way for hospitality leaders and their partners to see a fuller picture of their guests through the data. For example, if Hilton can see their guests returning to a favored Doordash vendor every time they stay, they can offer gift certificates, or even treat their guests to their favorite snacks waiting for them in their room fridge.
AI for realistic scenarios and risk-free practice
One innovative way the Atiom app is leveraging emerging AI technologies is through interactive role play. With just one sentence or file, you can craft a detailed roleplay curriculum that the AI will use to guide your team members through simulated situations they may face on the job, helping them to effectively respond to a variety of scenarios with customized feedback and assessments every step of the way.
Quote we are pondering:
“Every once in a while, a new technology, an old problem, and a big idea turn into an innovation.”
- Dean Kamen
Adopting new technologies can feel like an obstacle, but the best organizations are viewing emerging tech as an opportunity. The transformation is already here for the hospitality industry. As we venture into a new era where AI will simply be embedded in the tools we rely on in our daily lives, now is the time to grow.
